Autumn term 1 important information
Gannel and Whipsiderry - Autumn 1 2020
Welcome back to this new academic year of 2020/2021.
The past year has been very strange and difficult for all of us and I am really looking forward to supporting your children and yourselves in whatever way I can. Please feel free to speak to me at the door or on dojo and I will do my utmost to help make this first term as calm and comfortable as possible.
This year, we are using Knowledge Organisers which have replaced the old Curriculum Leaflets. Our topic of ‘How can we get a picture of the past?’ will last for Autumn 1 and Autumn 2.
- Spellings will continue to be weekly and the children will learn these during the week ready for a test on a Friday.
- Times Tables - there will be a weekly focus of a times table. At the end of Year 4 your child will take a statutory Times Tables Check in the Summer Term which will be taken on a computer. We will prepare for this during the year and I will get to know your child’s gaps up to 12x12 and their weekly times table practice will focus on this. There will be a weekly test on a Friday and the children will regularly have the opportunity to practice using our computers throughout the year. They all enjoy this and find it quite fun. We also have a daily ‘Fast Maths’ which is more practice. More information on the Times Table Check will follow but here is a link if you wanted to look now
- PE - this will take place for Autumn 1 on a Wednesday and all kits to be in school at all times please as this may vary dependent on weather. Please bring PE kit in on a Monday and then it should be taken home on a Friday, cleaned and brought back the following Monday.
Please, come and see me if you need any information or to chat through something.
