The Bishops' C of E Learning Academy

Reception New Starters 2020

 Welcome to The Bishops'

C of E Learning Academy
We are delighted that you have been successful in being allocated a place for your child to join our school family in September 2020.

The Reception year is such a special time and transitioning into this first year at school is important not only for your child, but also for you as parents/carers.

This is one of our favourite times of the year, getting to meet you and your children and starting their school journey with you. As part of our planned transition activities we usually have an information morning where you would be able to meet the staff and we would share a presentation with you with useful information about your child starting school. We would also arrange for our staff to visit your child in their nurseries and their home and hold a transition visit at school to allow your child to visit their new classroom. However, this year it will sadly have to be a little different and we may have to wait a little longer to meet face to face.

Please be assured that we will do everything that we can to ensure that your child has a smooth transition into their first year at school. As a starting point, we have set up this page on our website, dedicated to sharing information for our families of new starters for 2020. You should also shortly be recieving a welcome pack with some information included on this page as well as some forms for you to complete and return before your child starts school with us.

On this page, you will also find the presentation we would normally hold in person, meet the team videos of the staff who will be working with your children in September and suggestions about things you can do to prepare your child for starting school.

As soon as we have further information about the wider opening of schools and about what will happen next academic year we will be in touch again. In the meantime, please do not hesitate to contact the school if you have any questions and please also browse through other pages on our school website to find out more about us and our school community.

We look forward to meeting with you all soon.

Preparing your child for

school
The image below gives some ideas of the different types of activities and tasks that you could use to support your child in their preparation to start school. This is not an exhaustive list and plaese do not worry if your child is not able to do some of these things before they start. Just let the school know if there is something they find tricky and we will continue to support them and build on their learning from their nursery experience.
There are also some great stories that you can share with your child based around starting school. Below are the links to each story on Youtube. Just click on the heading above each image and the link to the story will open in a new window.

As well as keeping up to date with the Early Years section of our website, there are some other great websites to visit that can offer support on how to help your child prepare for school.
